SMCCFL Charity Cup becomes 'Col Smith Cup'

By Harry Pickup

Ahead of the new season, the SMCCFL and all club managers have decided to honour the memory of Colin Smith by naming the Charity Cup after him...

Last year the SMCCFL was very sad to lose Macclesfield Parish and league stalwart Colin Smith to cancer.

A famous face and presence in the league, his memory will always live long in the hearts of all connected with the league. It has therefore been decided by the league and all club managers that the SMCCFL Charity Cup be named after the inspirational footballing man of God.

This year the Col Smith Cup will get underway on Saturday 5th September and will feature 5 groups of four teams. The groups have already been drawn and will be revealed following this announcement.

Having always been in aid of The league's Ambassadors for Football Charity, the SMCCFL is excited about this new chapter in the its history, and hopes it will further the Christian ethos that runs throughout.
