Aims of the League

Aims of the League

Aims of the League

To provide an environment through which people can encounter God through playing football which is competitive and played in a sporting, friendly and honest way.

Mission

1. To use football to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ through contact with people who wouldn't normally go into a Church
2. To witness through actions and behaviour to non-Christians
3. To develop friendships with non-Christians and so provide opportunity to talk about Christianity and share the Good News.

Despite the name of the League which is historical, The South Manchester and Cheshire Christian Football League (SMCCFL) covers the whole of Greater Manchester and parts of Lancashire, as well as Cheshire, and provides churches who’s Football Clubs play within the League an opportunity to support this mission.

It is hoped that all Christians in the League will consider it their responsibility to help fulfil this mission and so enable others to understand the faith that we share in Jesus Christ, be they from their own team or another.

Aims

• To provide an opportunity for churches to start football outreach programmes into the community
• To allow churches to expand existing football ministries
• To act as a ‘stepping stone’ for Christian football clubs aiming to join other football leagues, for example to play matches more regularly

Concept and Format

The SMCCFL is for church based football clubs wishing to play matches about once every 2 weeks:

• A fixture list will be produced in July of each year following the AGM. Teams will be given specific dates on which to play matches. This date is to be adhered to, unless with reasonable notice and by mutual agreement the two clubs can re-arrange the match to a new date. .
• All matches to be played on a Saturday at 10.30am. Unless a more mutually convenient date & time is agreed by the team managers.
• Results will be recorded and league tables produced on the League website.
• The agreed rules and regulations of the SMCCFL will apply (rules may be amended and improved at the League AGM).
• Teams will play each other once or twice, depending on the number of teams in the league and the format of the league.
• An optional cup competition will normally take place.
• The league is sanctioned by Manchester County FA and all clubs must be affiliated to their County FA.

Timing

• Applications for membership of the League to be received in writing (by email) to the League Secretary and will be considered at the AGM. New clubs/teams joining the League will be confirmed at the AGM.
• The season's fee for entry into the Lague to cover FA sanction, league administration, trophies and medals, subsidy for an end of year league event is usually £30 – 40 per season.
• The fee is payable to the League Treasurer before each season starts.
